Merger Plans

Exciting plans for our GP practice to merge in 2020

Shanklin Medical Centre and Sandown Health Centre are to formally merge to form one new practice from April 1, 2020.

Both sites will remain open and you will still be able to see the same GP or nurse and access all your existing services in a move that our GPs believe is exciting news for you, our valued patients.

Our two practices strongly believe in continuity of care and we will be maintaining registered lists with each GP. We also aim to review ‘on the day’ demand and visiting services to ensure acute needs can be managed effectively and giving faster access to the appropriate services.

The merged practice will encourage access to health services through wider use of technology, including an updated website, online ordering of repeat prescriptions, online booking of appointments, e-consultations and health advice.

The merged practice will continue to be open during core hours (8am to 6.30pm). Both sites will also be providing extended hours/advance access outside of core hours on various days.

Our plans have been approved by NHS Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group, which is responsible for planning primary care services across the Island.

Your Patient Participation Group representatives have been informed about this merger. We know change can be unsettling and that many of you may have questions or concerns.

If you have any comments you can email us at alternatively there are comments boxes in both practices.
